UPDATE: This is actually MIT Crew holding Harvard shirts that they won after beating Harvard, as explained in the caption of a photo published in the May 29, 1950 issue of LIFE magazine by LIFE photographer Michael Rougier –Larry. See more info in the comments!

  1. Bob, it's a common misconception that this is the Harvard crew. They are actually the MIT crew, holding Harvard shirts that they won after beating Harvard, as explained in the caption of a photo published in the May 29, 1950 issue of LIFE magazine (see my blog post at https://unashamedmale.blogspot.com/search/label/crew for the published photo and caption).   2. Life often took advantage of press-priveledge, photographing penises/naked athletes, providing room for later, "cropping for publication."
    When they digitized the negs, they ended up publishing TONS of vintage nude athletes.
