Ft. Sheridan was an Army base on Lake Michigan which closed in 1993. I'm not sure what the purpose of this type of photo was.

  1. These are generally thought to have been for a "body typing" survey as part of a study on the endomorph, mesomorph, ectomorph triad. They are sometimes grouped with the Ivy League posture studies, but most observers think they had different purposes. The US Navy also did similar photos, albeit in almost exclusively in jockstraps, at their St. Mary's College Pre-flight Training facility in California. (The Navy shots also included before and after shots to show differences caused by their PE efforts.) The studies never went anywhere, but the photos linger on the internet, much to the delight of many.
