They are sometimes grouped with the Ivy League posture studies, but most observers think they had different purposes. The US Navy also did similar photos, albeit in almost exclusively in jockstraps, at their St. Mary's College Pre-flight Training facility in California. (The Navy shots also included before and after shots to show differences caused by their PE efforts.) The studies never went anywhere, but the photos linger on the internet, much to the delight of many.
